A Legacy of Leading

The University of Idaho (officially abbreviated UI, locally referred to as "the U of I") is the U.S. state of Idaho's oldest public university. It is the state's flagship, land-grant and primary research university.

Campus

Beginning with the beautiful residential campus in Moscow, the university’s reach extends throughout Idaho, serving over 12,000 students with educational centers in Coeur d’Alene, Boise and Idaho Falls, a research and extension center in Twin Falls, plus Extension offices in 42 countries.

Academic

U of I offers a huge selection of high-quality majors (85 undergraduate, 62 master’s, 31 doctoral) spread across 10 colleges. Our academic programs are ranked among the best in the nation, including the College of Education, College of Natural Resources and College of Engineering. Also, U of I offers over $25 million in scholarships annually – more than any other Idaho public institution.

Research

With $100 million spent annually on research, U of I is Idaho’s premier “higher research” university, and one of the top five in the Pacific Northwest, notes the Carnegie Foundation.

Quick Facts

The University of Idaho was the state's sole university for 71 years, until 1963, and its College of Law, established in 1909, was first accredited by the American Bar Association in 1925.
